Conceptual Model of Continuance Intention to Use of the Islamic Blog

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to offer greater insight in the role of content-related factor in the continuance used of the Islamic weblogs as the source of Islamic teachings and practices. Information System (IS) continuance intention Model is being employed as a conceptual tool to re-interpret the existing evidence of the continuance used of the weblogs. Additional elements including credibility, reliability and objectivity are being included to further clarify the role of content-related factor in determining the continued used of the weblogs. The analysis demonstrated that people tend to revisit the weblogs with reliable and credible information. The paper presents the importance of content in terms of credibility, objectivity, and reliability in encouraging people to continue use the Islamic weblogs in disseminating the Islamic information and knowledge significantly influences the people’s intention to revisit the weblogs in future.

Knowledge Transfer Process in Perak's Small Medium Enterprises (SME) Companies

Abstract

Knowledge transfer (KT) exists in every corner of SME, in its structure and relationship especially in its people. Even though knowledge management will benefit SME as they are rich of tacit and explicit knowledge but lacking in expertise. Currently, knowledge management (KM) is almost impossible for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME). Since SME have efficient and informal communication network, knowledge transfer and sharing is essential especially in an organization with limited resources. Therefore, in the wake of knowledge-based economy, knowledge transfer and sharing is the best tool for SME in enhancing competence and organizational performance which relate its needs and background. Knowledge transfer and sharing is still at new especially in SME.The objective of this study is to exploring the knowledge transfer process in Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) businesses in Perak. In doing this, it examines how knowledge is transferred in SME businesses between people in the company. The study also explores problems and factors affecting knowledge transfer process. The knowledge transfer framework is proposed to assist SME managers in formulating and implementing for knowledge transfer process. By using a qualitative research approach, this research employed a case study approach with multiple cases strategy. Two SME company in Perak were used as cases. The study used semi- structured interviews with SME managers, workers and information provider in Perak state. The interview results were analyzed across the cases and the findings were used to test and refine the proposed framework. The main findings from these two interviewed revealed that the knowledge transfer process is most affected by communication, trust, relationship, willingness, experience and organization culture. However, the finding also revealed the major problem in the process such as language and technology.

Academic Library Outreach Program: Case Study of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) in the State of Kedah

Abstract

The notion of an academic library outreach program denotes the efforts uphold by an institution’s academic library to serve their academic community, namely; students, academician, researchers and non-academic administrators. However, the theory and the practices of an outreach program in a Malaysian academic library and Malaysian public library tends to be overlapping. The aim of this article is to discover and deliberate on the factors that affect an outreach program in an academic library. In doing so, study result from two Institutes of Teacher Education (IPG) in the State of Kedah is selected.This study adopts a qualitative case study approach with in-depth individual interviews of the leading librarian for each institution, and later the thematic content analysis and cross-case analysis is used throughout this study in order to analyze the data. From the result of the interviews in the two Institutes of Teacher Education (IPG) in the State of Kedah, two most important factors emerge and it is said to be the key factor the affect an academic library outreach programs.This paper is approached from the leading of librarian’s perspective for each institution, namely; CS1 and CS2.

The Determinants of Electronic Publishing in Malaysia

ABSTRACT

In the modern era of ICT revolution, the application of electronics medium and devices to every aspect of human life has become significant. Electronic publishing has emerged as a major development in the electronic media landscape and the adoption of this new media has become an important area of research.  The continuance of electronic publishing depends on the adoption of this media by publishers and users. However, a research demonstrates that the rate of adoption of electronic publishing amongst Malaysian publishers is low. The main objectives of this study are: 1) to determine factors that facilitate the adoption of electronic publishing amongst Malaysian publishers from the perspectives of technological, organisational, environmental contexts; 2) to examine the effect of intention on electronic publishing adoption amongst Malaysian publishers; and 3) to examine the mediation effect of intention on the relationship between technological, organisational and environmental factors and electronic publishing adoption amongst Malaysian publishers. A research model is developed to identify and evaluate the key determinant factors influencing the adoption of electronic publishing amongst Malaysian publishers. This study draws on the organisation adoption theory, that is, the technology, organisation, and environment framework (TOE) to understand and explain the determinant factors of electronic publishing adoption. In addition, behavioural intention is adapted to explain the mediating effect between the independent variables (technology, organisation, and environmental factors) and the adoption of electronic publishing. Applying the quantitative method, the data collection employed a self-administered survey technique using questionnaire as the instrument.

Abstract

The majority of the research on knowledge management (KM) in Malaysia has been testing-theory and deductive research in nature where elements and characteristics of good knowledge management are being identified. Also, limited researches that suggest effectiveness of different knowledge management system implementation. Such research does not really study the implications of KM and whether their implementations are successful or not. The limitation of such research in Malaysia necessitates exploring the use of new approaches in the pursuit of exploring and understanding further the subject matter. This article firstly, explains different types of research approaches. Secondly, proposes and argues on the suitability of a case study research with narrative inquiry as the main data gathering tool as an alternative. Thirdly, with a research example conducted on one organisation in Malaysia explains how data can be gathered and analysed.
